About This Course

Educators & schools have a key role in assuring the safety and support of transgender youth.  Yet, levels of bullying and sexual harassment are extraordinarily high among transgender youth, with over 60% reporting being victimized on a regular basis.  Suicide attempts among transgender youth are more than 25 times the national average.  Keeping transgender students safe is a matter of human dignity and rights.  This workshop will explore ways adults can ensure transgender students have a safe and supportive environment

Learning Objectives: 

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define gender, gender expression, and sexual orientation;
  • Cite current research on bullying of transgender youth;          
  • Explore applicable laws outlining student safety; and,
  • Develop strategies to maintain a climate of safety & respect for transgender and all youth.
Intended Audience: 

This introductory level course, is designed for all professionals (behavioral health specialists, teachers, social workers, etc.) who work with young people.  Parents are also welcomed
